Hartman
Sports announced today that it has initiated the process of seeking a
new ownership group for the Wichita Wings to ensure the continuation of
the popular Major Indoor Soccer League franchise.
Local
businessman and philanthropist Wink Hartman acquired the rights to a
MISL franchise in 2010 and resurrected the Wichita Wings brand in the
2011-2012 MISL season. With an avid fan base, the Wings have been
amongst the league leaders in attendance over the past two MISL seasons
hosting games at Hartman Arena and narrowly missed out on qualifying for
the playoffs in 2011-2012.
The
timing of the announcement coincides with an internal review within the
overall Hartman Group of companies and is designed to shift the
ownership to a group that can dedicate its primary focus and resources
towards the operation of the MISL team in Wichita.
"The
Wichita Wings is a great organization. It is time for an ownership
group that can focus 100% of their time to take control and create a
winning team on and off the field. The MISL future is very bright and I
know the Wings will continue to be a major part of their success," said
current owner, Wink Hartman.
The
Wings are working in conjunction with the MISL league office to
identify an ownership group that has the experience and wherewithal to
build upon the platform set forth by Hartman Sports for future success.
It is the objective of all parties to have the new ownership group in
place prior to finalization of the 2013-2014 MISL alignment in early
summer.
