After
two shootouts, the Runners needed a game like this. No drama in this
one as Topeka took control and the second and didn’t let their foot off
the pedal until it was over, treating the RoadRunner faithful to a 4-1
victory.
A
scoreless first led into the second period when recently called up
Brogan Rafferty scored his first goal as a Runner to give Topeka a 1-0
lead. Team Captain Drew Kariofiles increased the lead at 6:55 and Tyler
Andrew added another at 16:22, sending Texas into the locker room down
3-0.
In
the third, Tyler Poulsen fought his way to an unassisted breakaway goal
at 5:14, effectively putting the game out of reach. Brandon Platt
scored to end the shutout with just nine seconds left but it was not to
be for the Tornado who will finish the season in third place in the
South Division.
The
RoadRunners hit the road next weekend against the Wichita Falls
Wildcats for the final series of the regular season. Fans can catch all
of the action at Blind Tiger Brewery and Restaurant on Friday and
Saturday night. The games start at 7pm but get there early as seats are
limited.
