It
was the same script but with different players on Friday as Topeka
posted another five goals against second-place Texas to close out a
winning trip to Frisco 5-2.
In
a break from the norm, the second period ended up being the least busy
of the three. Peter Halash found the back of the net by way of Tyler
Andrew at 11:43 to give the RoadRunners a 1-0 lead heading into the
second.
And
it was early in the second that Kyle Sharkey netted his fourth goal of
the weekend (at 4:09). Just seconds later, the Tornado struck back.
Starting with Sean Conway who cut the lead in half at 4:35 and finishing
with Brandon Hawkins’ period closer to tie the game at two.
RoadRunner
fans mindful of seeing leads disappear were rightly apprehensive but,
for tonight, it was wasted energy. The RoadRunners owned the third with
goals from Jerad Tafoya and Brandon Brossoit (two, counting the empty
netter) that sealed a 5-2 win and a much needed sweep over their
division rival. With four points earned over the weekend, the
RoadRunners close to within three points of Texas.
The
RoadRunners return home for a nap before heading back out to play at
Wichita Falls. Fans can catch all of the action at Blind Tiger Brewery
and Restaurant next Friday and Saturday night. The game begins at 7pm
but get there early as seats are limited. The RoadRunners return to
Landon Arena on March first against the Wichita Falls Wildcats. One
dollar from each walk-up ticket sale on that date will be used to help
send Officers Gogian and Atherly’s families to Washington DC for the
National Police Week Memorial.
