The
Missouri Mavericks defeated the Tulsa Oilers, 5-2, Saturday night in
front of the 10th consecutive sellout at Independence Events Center.
The sellout streak is tied for the longest in the franchise history.
Kellan Tochkin led all scorers with four points on the night on two
goals and two assists. His line mates Sebastien Thinel and Kenton
Miller each added three points as the Mavericks improved to 23-17-4.
Mavs’ goaltender Mike Clemente stopped 32 of 34 shots, while his
counterpart Dan Clarke let in five goals and saved 34. The Mavericks
close out a three-game weekend when they travel to Bloomington on Sunday
The
Mavericks controlled from the opening faceoff. Missouri put up eight
shots and a goal before the Oilers had their first shot on goal. Colt
King ripped a slap shot home at the 4:17 mark to give the Mavericks a
1-0 lead, a lead that held through the first period.
Missouri extended their lead to 3-0 in the second period on goals from Tochkin and Miller.
Tulsa
battled in the third period and made it 3-1 on a goal by Jason Weeks
just 3:38 into the period. Missouri answered on Tochkin’s second goal
of the night at the 5:06 mark. Sean Erickson scored for the Oilers on
the power play to make it a 4-2 game at 7:01, but that would be as close
as the Oilers would get. Miller missed on a penalty shot at 9:32, but
he made up for it just 12 seconds later on his second goal of the
evening.
The
Mavericks head to Bloomington Sunday before three home games next week.
Missouri will host Denver on Tuesday, Feb.12, Bloomington on Friday,
Feb 15 and Allen on Saturday Feb. 16.
