This
weekend we have three movies being released. First up is the drama Safe
Haven. It stars Josh Duhamel & Julianne Hough in an affirming and
suspenseful story about a young woman's struggle to love again.
Next
up is the thriller Beautiful Creatures which is a supernatural love
story set in the South. "It tells the tale of two star-crossed lovers:
Ethan, a young man longing to escape his small town, and Lena, a
mysterious new girl. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their
respective families, their history and their town.
Lastly
is the fifth movie in the Die Hard franchise titled A Good Day to Die
Hard. In this installment John McClane faces his greatest challenge
ever, this time on an international stage, when his estranged son Jack
is caught up in the daring prison escape of a rogue Russian leader, and
father and son McClane must work together to keep each other alive and
keep the world safe for democracy.
If you enjoy seeing older movies in their original theatre setting then Alamo Drafthouse has a couple of treats for you. The Late Show
takes the gloves off and brings you a brand spanking new 35mm print of
John Carpenter's The Thing! That’s right you can see Kurt Russell defend
humanity all week long at The Late Show! Grab your flamethrower and
head down to the drafthouse this Sunday for The Ultimate In Alien
Terror!!!!

On the 20th they bring you the thing that won't die, in the nightmare
that won't end! The Terminator has arrived at Alamo Drafthouse
Mainstreet and he’s brought explosives!! That’s right, Pyro returns to the Drafthouse paired with one of the best action films ever created! Get your tickets now!
When
it comes to sports you have a jampacked weekend. The Mavericks kick
things off with a game Friday versus the Bloomington Blaze. Fans can
come to the Silverstein Eye Centers Box Office at Independence Events
Center all week and get $5 off tickets to Friday’s game just by wearing a
hockey jersey. For those who are unable to make it to the box office,
the Mavericks are also offering a Buy Three Get One Free special
available online only through Ticketmaster.com.
On
Saturday the Mavs battle the Allen Americans and they will wear USA
themed jerseys. The jerseys are very similar to USA Hockey’s 1980
“Miracle on Ice” team, the last United States team to win a gold medal
at the Olympics. There will be a live auction following the game
benefitting Rainbow Center.

When
it comes to basketball you have a couple of options this weekend. The
UMKC Kangaroos get things started with a game Thursday night as they
take on the IPFW Mastodons at the Swinney Recreation Center and then on
Saturday evening the 'Roos host the Oakland University Grizzlies. Both
games will be televised on KSMO.
Also on Saturday the Missouri Rhythm host the Conway Cyclones in ABA action. Check the site for more details.
On Sunday afternoon the Comets will host the Milwaukee Wave. It's also the team's ANNUAL PINK GAME.
The Comets players will be wearing special pink jerseys which will be
auctioned-off immediately following the game. Proceeds from the auction
will benefit the Ali Kemp Foundation. Remember, there are only 3 Regular
Season Games Left, so time is running out for you to catch some indoor
soccer excitement! Besides being broadcast on MISLNation.com the
game will also be broadcast locally on Metro Sports. As usual there
will be post game Autographs On Field and a Post Game Party Immediately

The
Topeka RoadRunners are on the road this weekend. The are in Texas to
take on the Wichita Falls Wildcats in a two game set. As with all
RoadRunners away games there will be a watch party at Blind Tiger
Brewery and Restaurant. There will be games, prizes and a chance to hang
out with players who didn’t make the trip. The games begin at 7:15 but
get there early as seats are limited.
