RoadRunner
fans must feel like Santa left them all a lump of coal in their
stockings this Christmas. The RoadRunners (19-8-5) dropped their fourth
straight game Friday night, falling to the Jr. Blues by a score of 2-1.
Despite
having only five shots on goal midway through the second period,
Springfield’s Mitch Rogge made the sixth one count at 6:45 to give the
Jr. Blues a 1-0 lead. The RoadRunners would counter almost eight minutes
later with a goal from Brandon Brossoit at 14:35.
The tie would be short lived.
With
RoadRunner fans still on their feet celebrating Brossoit’s goal, Ryan
Atkinson scored unassisted at 14:58 to give Springfield a 2-1 edge.
Topeka was unable to muster a score in the third period and Springfield
held on for the win.
With
the loss, the RoadRunners fall eight points behind Amarillo in the
division and four points behind Texas for second place. They will shrug
it off and return to the ice Saturday night for the second and final
game of the series against the Jr. Blues. Saturday night is Scout Night
at Landon Arena. All Topeka area Boy and Girl Scouts will receive a
RoadRunners Hockey badge for attending the game. For more information on
tickets, call 785-286-PUCK or visit the Expocentre Box Office.
