Topeka RoadRunners End 2012 With 3-1 Win Over Springfield

Ending the calendar year on a strong note, the RoadRunners secured that elusive 20th win, broke a four-game losing streak, and kept pace with Amarillo and Texas in what has become a tough South Division race.
Michal Pastor broke the ice on Friday night in the first period, whizzing the puck past Ryan Kellenberger at 5:42 to give the RoadRunners a 1-0 lead heading into the second.
Pastor’s cross checking penalty at 12:17 paved the way for Nate Chasteen’s game-tying power play goal at 13:28. Five minutes later, Patrick Pollack picked an excellent time to score his first goal of the season, restoring the RoadRunners advantage 2-1.
Late in the third, Brandon Brossoit tallied his third goal in as many games to give the RoadRunners a 3-1 lead that the Jr. Blues were unable to overcome. On the goal, Kyle Sharkey collected the 100th point of his RoadRunner career.
Spencer Viele ended his personal two-game losing streak with a strong performance in the net, stopping 16 of 17 shots on goal and holding off five of six power plays.
The RoadRunners will travel to Wichita Falls next weekend to take on the Wildcats. Fans in Topeka are invited to watch the games at Blind Tiger Brewery and Restaurant. The games begin at 7pm but get there early as seats are limited.
