Comets Ready To Start New Streak

Back in the beautiful Independence Events Center this weekend, the Comets are looking to right the ship from their current 3 game losing skid. After starting out the season with four straight wins, the team has dropped three straight against east coast foes, Baltimore Blast, Syracuse Silver Knights and Rochester Lancers. The Comets get ready to welcome the newest MISL franchise, the Chicago Soul, on Sunday at 3:10pm.
Although the Chicago Soul are the newest franchise in the league, they are not your typical expansion team. To survive in this league, team management decided they needed to be aggressive from the start. Hiring former Chicago soccer legends Manny Rojas and Novi Marojevic to coach the team, then setting their sights on star players. Former MISL MVP Chile Farias, former Comet Bato Radoncic and former Milwaukee Wave star Matt Stewart, highlight the list of stars on the roster. Although they only have two wins on the season, the Soul have turned a lot of heads with their relentless pressure and solid play.
The Comets have star power of their own, with three players (Byron Alvarez, Vahid Assadpour, Will John) sitting on the league's top twenty points leader list. They are second in the league with 45 goals scored, averaging nearly seven per game. The key to this weekend's game for the Comets will be controlling the midfield. Former MISL Rookie of the Year, Lucas Rodriguez, should return to the lineup after missing the last few games with an upper leg injury. His footwork and vision, along with the play of team captain, Assadpour, allow forwards Alvarez and newly signed Stefan St. Louis to free themselves up for open shots or find an advancing teammate for an easy pass.
Sunday is also the Comets Military Appreciation game. The team will be wearing special Military-themed jerseys that will be auctioned off immediately following the game. All fans in attendance will receive commemorative US Army Dog Tags as they arrive. The US Marine Corps will also be on-site collecting items for their annual Toys For Tots Drive. All current military personnel and veterans can receive special 2 for 1 ticket offers by calling 855-KC-ARENA (522-7362).
