Comets Lose High Scoring Affair To Rochester

The Comets are ready to head back home to the beautiful Independence Events Center after a grueling weekend road trip to Upstate New York. Less than 24 hours after not creating enough offense to defeat the Syracuse Silver Knights the Comets traveled down the road to Rochester to take on the Lancers. Scoring tonight, was not the problem. 44 year old Lancers forward, Doug Miller, was. Behind his six goals, the Lancers were able to win 24-17 over the visiting Comets.
This game proved from the very beginning that it was going to be more physical and action-packed than the Comets had played the night before. In the first half, the Comets got goals from Will John, Leo Gibson and Vahid Assadpour. However, Miller and Andy Tiedt were able to score two goals in a 36 second span to only be down 7-4 at the quarter break.
The second half got a little chippy, both teams saw several players spend time in the penalty box. Each team converted a power play in the quarter, including Leo Gibson’s toe-poke from the top of the arc.  However, Doug Miller’s three goals in the quarter were too much for the Comets. They were down 10-9 at the half.
The third and fourth quarters were a continuation of the Doug Miller show, as he continued to find himself behind the Comets defense. He added two goals in the third to tie Byron Alvarez for the record of most goals in a single game. Leo Gibson did complete a hat trick with two second half goals along with goals from Milan Ivanovic and an own goal credited to Vahid Assadpour. Once again, playing from behind forced the Comets to be aggressive on the offensive end and left them vulnerable on defense. The Lancers capitalized on any mistake the Comets made for the 24-17 victory.
The Comets will return home for their first matchup with the Chicago Soul on December 9th at the Independence Events Center at 3:10pm. It is the Comets Military Appreciation Day and the Comets will be wearing special military themed jerseys that fans can take home immediately after the game during a LIVE auction.
