January 4th Weekend Preview

I hope everyone had a happy and safe start to their 2013. There are plenty of sports options for you this weekend.
As far as non-sports options, there is only one new movie opening this weekend. Texas Chainsaw 3D is the second remake of the horror classic, this time in 3D. I am still not that crazy about the 3D craze since I don’t think a lot of these movies need the treatment and are only down to boost the box office receipts. But if you like slasher movies then check it out and let me know what you thought of the remake.
Friday is the first Friday of the month so that means a First Friday Art Walk in the Crossroads Arts District. Yes, First Friday happens in January!  for more info click here
The UMKC 'Roos men’s team plays two games at Municipal Auditorium this week. On Thursday they host South Dakota State with tipoff set for 7:05 p.m. On Saturday they battle North Dakota State in a late afternoon game scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Both games with be broadcast on KSMO-TV channel 62.
The Mavericks play two games at the IEC this weekend. On Friday the opponent is the Wichita Thunder. The team will again have a HOG WILD HAPPY HOUR presented by Blue Springs Harley Davidson from 5:30-6:30pm with cheap prices on Nachos, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Soda & Beer.
Also, the first 1,000 fans ages 15 and under will receive the jersey pictured below courtesy of Dental Arts.
Saturday’s roadblock is the expansion Denver Cutthroats. Face off for both games is set for 7:00 p.m. This is a Me Plus 3-4 Pack offer game: Grab 3 friends and get four tickets for the price of three.
On Sunday you can join Mavericks players Evan Vossen and Podge Turnbull for a Happy Hour at Rib Crib from 6p-8p. Rib Crib will be offering great food and drink specials for Mavericks fans.
The Comets host a Sunday afternoon (3:10pm) match against the Wichita Wings. The first 3,000 fans through the doors will receive a FREE COMETS NESTING DOLL! Brian Harris, Ryan Junge and Boris Pardo are all represented on this keepsake item. As usual, there will be a post game autograph session party immediately after at Strikerz Entertainment Center.

The Missouri Rhythm are on the road this weekend. They travel to St. Louis to take on the Scorpions in an ABA tilt.
The Topeka RoadRunners travel to Texas to face off against the Wichita Falls Wildcats in a weekend series. There will be a watch party for both games at Blind Tiger Brewery.
The Sprint Center plays host to the Nuclear Cowboyz. This is a motocross show that tells a story through an adrenaline-packed narrative based in a futuristic setting. The saga is defined through jaw-dropping freestyle tricks meshed with pyrotechnic and laser displays all synchronized to heavy metal, rock alternative and electronic dubstep music.
Have a happy and safe weekend.
