November 9th Weekend Preview

Well, this weekend is hockey heaven for Kansas City area sports fans with weekend series in Independence and Topeka.
On Friday night the Missouri Mavericks host the Bloomington Blaze at the Independence Events Center, the puck drops at 7:00 PM. The first 3,000 fans will receive a magnetic schedule courtesy of Mazuma Credit Union and the first 1,000 fans 14 and under will receive a orange youth hockey jersey sponsored by Shocking Prices. There will also be several sponsor kiosks set up around the arena where fans will be able to receive free items and register for prize giveaways.
If you want to catch some amatuer hockey then head to Topeka. The RoadRunners take on the Amarillo Bulls at the Kansas Expocentre (One Expocentre Drive, Topeka, KS 66612) at 7:05PM. This weekend the RoadRunners are celebrating Veterans Day with special events during both games. If you want to grab a bite to eat before the game I suggest stopping by Blind Tiger Brewery (417 SW 37th St., Topeka, KS 66611) for some good food and great brews
On Saturday the Mavericks will again be taking on the Blaze at the IEC. Bob Sight Kia will be sponsoring the Adopt‐A‐Mav Auction.
In Topeka, the Roadrunners will be wearing a special military themed jersey. The specialty jerseys will use a desert camouflage design bordered with the American flag and overlaid with soldier silhouettes.  They will be worn for both games of the series against Amarillo and will be auctioned off following the game on Saturday night.
Additionally, a special jersey will be autographed by the team and held for silent auction throughout the weekend. Interested fans can view the jersey and place bids during each of the two games. A portion of the proceeds from the silent auction and the full team jersey auction will go to the Topeka VA Medical Center.
On Sunday the Missouri Comets will be in Milwaukee to take on the Wave at U.S. Cellular Arena. The game is set to start at 3:00PM and will be telecast on Metro Sports and online at USLNation.com.
If you are looking for other things to attend besides just hockey games, remember, this is the last weekend for The Chambers of Edgar Allan Poe Haunted House and Macabre Cinema Haunted House. So, if you are looking for one last scare then head down to the West Bottoms. Also, the latest James Bond movie, ‘Skyfall’, opens this weekend along with Steven Spielberg’s biopic ‘Lincoln’ (in limited release). And if you are looking to entertain the kids don’t forget that Wreck-It Ralph, Hotel Transylvania and Frankenweenie are still in theaters.
I hope everyone has a terrific weekend.
