November 16 Weekend Preview

This weekend seems to officially kickoff the Christmas season with lighting ceremonies scheduled all over the city. But first lets talk about arena sports going on this weekend.
On Friday the Comets return home to the Independence Events Center to take on the Syracuse Silver Knights. The team is asking their fans to show their support of the Comets by wearing blue. Arrive early for happy hour from 6:35-7:35 p.m. with $1 sodas, $1 hot dogs and $2 beers.
If indoor soccer is not your thing then give one of KC’s other arena teams a shot. Also on friday the Missouri Rhythm, Kansas City’s ABA franchise, will be playing an exhibition game against the Grandview Christian School Alumni at the Grandview Christian School gym (12340 Grandview Rd, Grandview, MO 64030).
On Saturday it is the Mavericks turn to play host as they battle the Rapid City Rush at the IEC. Stick around after the game and you can Skate With The Team which is sponsored by Centerpoint.
If you are already in or are wanting to get in the Christmas spirit, there are several Christmas tree lighting ceremonies going on this weekend.
On Friday head to downtown Kansas City Missouri and you can celebrate the start of the 2012 Holiday Season. Enjoy caroling, holiday lights, happy hour specials, open houses at participating Main Street businesses, sneak-peek holiday shopping and more from 5-8pm.
See the 2012 Holiday Windows on Main as they are unveiled at 6:30pm.                 Don't miss Santa Claus, the Marching Cobras, The Southland 6th Grade Brass Choir, The Pleasant Ridge Elementary Patriots Pride Special Chorus and more who will be performing live!

At Union Station, the festivities start with 99.7 the Point presents: Kiss Under the Clock. Join Kelly Urich from 99.7 The POINT at the 2nd Annual Kiss Under The Clock at Union Station from 2 pm-5 pm. Bring your family to smooch under the iconic Union Station clock for your family picture, help out The Salvation Army in the process. You can then stick for Union Station’s Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. This evening will be full of warmth and holiday cheer with holiday music and hot chocolate. Be a part of a beautiful and historic location in Kansas City this Christmas season.

The Legends are also kicking off the holiday season on Saturday with a full day of events. You can get your photo taken with Santa, enjoy holiday music and then watch the lighting ceremony that will feature the largest synchronized lighting ceremony in Kansas City. The U.S Marine Corps Reserve will officially launch the Toys for Tots program at the event.

Downtown Kansas City, Missouri will be having a lighting ceremony. Shortly before 6 p.m., Santa Claus will lead the parade to Barney Allis Plaza for the City Lights ceremony. Immediately after the festivities at 6:25, Santa will lead the parade to Cosentino's Downtown Market for children's activities and then on to the Power & Light District for an adult happy hour.

Zona Rosa restores the local tradition of using crowns as holiday decor with a variety of lighted crowns featured throughout the center during the holidays. Zona Rosa will kick off the holiday season with a special lighting ceremony to spotlight the large crowns hung above the streets, as well as the featured Christmas tree in the Town Square. The community is invited to the free program including the official arrival of Santa Claus, The Kansas City Fairy Princess, Santa's Reindeer,carolers and a variety of children's activities.

Next monday and tuesday (Nov. 19-20) 2012 CBE Hall of Fame Classic takes place at Sprint Center. The tournament will feature some of the best college basketball teams in the country including the University of Kansas, Texas A&M University, Saint Louis University and Washington State University.
