Comets Close Regular Season With Win

With playoff seeding on the line, the Comets traveled to Chicago to finish their regular season against the Soul. The Comets needed a single win to ensure themselves of the third seed in the 2013 MISL Playoffs. It took more than four quarters, but Byron Alvarez scored three minutes into the overtime period to give the Comets the 8-6 win against the Chicago Soul.
After waiting until the final six seconds to net a goal in their previous matchup, the Comets jumped on the scoreboard first tonight. Ryan Junge found Jeff Hughes along the left side, who buried his shot from close range. Matthew Stewart was able to tie it up for Chicago with a nice shot of his own from the side only a minute later.
Tied 2-2 at the start of the second quarter, Coach Kim Roentved employed a high pressure strategy that saw two, and sometimes three, Comets players with immediate pressure on any Soul player who gained possession in his defensive third of the field. Ryan Junge earned his second helper of the game, feeding Vahid Assadpour for the only score of the quarter. Comets led at the break 4-2.
Relaxing a bit from their high pressure stance, the Comets still had several opportunities in the third quarter. The Comets controlled the ball through much of the game, outshooting the soul 38-16 in the game. Matt Stewart and Freddy Degand were able to break through the Missouri attack late in quarter, scoring two goals in thirty seconds to put Chicago in the lead briefly 6-4. However, Assadpour answered right back two minutes later, intercepting a defensive clearance from Soul goalkeeper Jeff Richey and passing to Robert Palmer. Palmer returned the pass and Assadpour scored his second of the game, tying it up.
The fourth quarter saw no scores as both teams applied tentative pressure, not wanting to make a mistake as the clock wound down. With the score tied 6-6, the fans who braved the weather in Chicago were treated to overtime soccer. The Comets once again broke out their high-pressure attack and controlled much of the action. After Chicago's Carlos Munoz was whistled for a foul to the right of his goal, Comets midfielder John Sosa found Byron Alvarez on the restart for the goal and 8-6 victory.
The Comets will return home for the MISL Semi-Final series on March 7th at 7:35pm.

Comets Face Big Weekend

The Missouri Comets are ready to end the month of December on a high note. With two games this weekend, they have the opportunity to once again climb over the .500 mark. Friday night the team makes its first trip to Sears Centre Arena to take on the Chicago Soul. This will be the second matchup of the season between these two teams, with the Comets defeating the Soul 14-11 on December 9th in the Independence Events Center. The next day, the Comets are back at home to face the Syracuse Silver Knights.

December has been a rough month for the Comets but coach Kim Roentved thinks they can regain their winning prowess with a good showing this weekend, “It’s tough when you are on the road for several games, then dealing with some injuries…this has been a great week of practice for the boys and we all believe there are many more victories in front of us.”

Friday night the Comets offense will need to be accurate with their shots. Chicago goalkeeper Jeff Richey has been outstanding in the net recently, and was a big part of their recent victory over the Baltimore Blast. In that game he turned away the league’s most potent offense 24 times. In the last matchup with the Comets, they were able to get off 17 shots against Richey on the way to a 14-11 win.

On Saturday, the Comets defense will need to step up to the plate. In the last matchup between these two teams, the Syracuse Silver Knights managed to score 18 points on the Comets. Missouri has been a strong home team this year, and has never lost to the Silver Knights at the Independence Events Center. Current MISL Player of the Week, Bryan Perez, and forward Jamar Beasley have been putting the Knights on the scoreboard recently. Defenders Leo Gibson and Brian Harris are very familiar with both former Comets and look to slow down them both down.

Saturday night kicks off at the Independence Events Center at 7:35 p.m. CT, and marks the return of the popular Media Night Game. Fans can see some of their favorite TV, Radio, Newspaper, and Internet personalities play an exhibition match at halftime. Some of the players scheduled to appear include: Kris Ketz (KMBC), Brett Anthony (KSHB), Nick Vasos (Fox 4), Dana Wright (KMBZ Radio), Steve Serrano (Mix 93.3) and many more.

Chicago Soul Unveil Club's Official Logo

The newest Major Indoor Soccer League franchise, Chicago Soul FC, is thrilled to unveil the official team logo. The logo features black, white, neon green and silver colors within a triangular emblem and consists of a blazing soccer ball over the text, "Chicago Soul FC".
"We’re excited to have the logo completed, and are now working hard at getting all of the pieces of the team and organization together to have a great inaugural season," said Owner and Chief Operation Officer, Dave Mokry.
The Soul will launch their inagural season on November 11 in Milwaukee, Wisc. against the Wave, and will kick off their home opener on December 7 at the Sears Centre Arena.
