The
UMKC men’s basketball program announced the signing of Kansas City
product Martez Harrison on Thursday. The point guard played at a prep
school last season in Brewster Academy of New Hampshire, after a high
school career at University Academy in Kansas City.
“We
are extremely excited to have Martez join our family,” UMKC Head Coach
Kareem Richardson said of his first signee, “He has great leadership
skills and will have the ability to impact the game on both ends of the
floor.”

Harrison
led Brewster Academy to a 32-6 overall record (team went 27-3 in his
starts)… He averaged 10 points and 5.5 assists per game while hitting 59
percent from the floor and 71 percent from the free throw line, playing
for head coach Jason Smith… During his career at University Academy in
Kansas City, he was a two-time first-team all-state selection and left
as the all-time leading scorer in both a season and career… He also has
the school record with 58 points scored in a game… As a senior he
averaged 34 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals per
game while being selected first team all-district and helping the squad
to an 18-10 mark… He was the team captain for two seasons, and earned a
spot in the Missouri vs. Kansas All-Star Game as a senior as well…
During his junior season, Harrison put up 27.5 points, five rebounds,
five assists and two steals per outing, garnering first-team
all-district accolades… He was also a first-team all-district pick and
the District MVP as a sophomore, averaging 18.3 points four boards, four
assists and two steals per outing… He played his AAU basketball for the
KC 76ers for four seasons, winning the Fab 48 in 2011… Academically, he
was on the Honor Roll at University Academy in 2010-11.
