Independence Bets On Hockey To Balance Arena Budget

A good playoff run by the Missouri Mavericks hockey team could help the Independence Events Center score a balanced budget, The Independence Examiner reports.
The arena is $59,000 off its projected budget for the year, hurt partly by a handful of scheduled events that didn’t occur. But General Manager Mike Young told The Examiner that a couple of Mavericks playoff games could make up the deficit.
The Mavericks are in a three-way tie for sixth in the Central Hockey League standings after a 5-2 loss to Quad City on Saturday. The top eight teams will make the playoffs.
